Conference Name: Mantle of the Expert 2
Conference Reference: TLCNM2X1O8
Summary: N/A
Description/Learning Outcomes: Such has been the outstanding responses from the successes of the first set of national conferences, we are creating opportunities for practitioners and other users of the system to move onto the next steps which are beyond a basic introduction to the system (as in MoE 1 2006-07 model) - to a deeper awareness of the sets of practices, sequences and procedures that are needed to implement the work over a protracted period of time.  We have used the extensive sets of feedback materials gathered from all the MoE 1 events and from the www.mantleoftheexpert.com website to construct these in depth structured training workshops.  The team of tutors have designed the conference contents, guided and mentored by professor Heathcote, from the needs expressed.

Our second set of national conferences aims to:

1.  Enable teachers to advancing and improve their skills and practices in Mantle of the Expert system by specific training workshops led by the inventor of the system as well as the UKs foremost classroom based trainers and practitioners.

2.  Provide opportunities for in depth training for existing users of the system.

3.  Provide guidance, resources and support for colleagues who are at the trialling phase in schools and other settings to take the experiments further.

4.  Examine in depth how the teacher uses new procedures and deploys four key learning paradigms for learning-procedures for:
  • enquiry based learning;
  • constructing drama for learning experiences;
  • implementing the MoE system itself and
  • Instruction.
The conference director is Luke Abbott who leads the national project 'Mantle of the Expert' as part of his senior transformative learning and teaching post in Essex County Council.  His previous posts have been teaching in middle, special and community schools in English, humanities and the arts.  He has also managed teaching and learning developments across innovative school centres, as well as tutoring a countrywide Advanced Diploma for Teachers in all phases.  Luke has worked with disadvantaged children and learners in Chicago, and has lead many courses for teachers and SLT's in the US.  He sat on the national RSA Arts Board as National Examiner and was a member of the QCA Advisory Panel for Creativity in Education 2001-2004.
